Local Thrift Store Highlight: The Scoop Shop

Open since 1945, The Scoop Shop is one of the oldest vintage clothing stores in Buffalo --- a bit ironic, both oldest and vintage, isn't it? Slightly hidden in Elmwood except for a row of high heels that lead you down the sidewalk to a turquoise storefront. Inside is a treasure trove of clothing, accessories, and shoes, along with items created by local artists that the shop promotes. My friend, Cass, sells their earrings here and other thrift stores such as the Blue Moon Vintage Bus set up shop on the sidewalk.

Wendi, the owner, is a fabulous woman who knows each of her customers by name and keeps track of their tastes to best recommend items. Moreover, she also can sell some of your clothes which is a necessity to any vintage collector as she offers store credit. There is an eclectic collection of midcentury fashion extending to late 2010s in every size that is certain to appeal to any customer. Wendi and her employees carefully curate all items that end up in the store, ensuring that everything is high quality and appropriately priced. I've been to every thrift store Buffalo has to offer and nothing can compare to the warm and personable nature of The Scoop Shop.

  1. Elmwood is my favorite place to go when I am visiting home, I have seen the high heels on the sidewalk and have never thought to follow them before! This seems like such a good store that could really help me step out of my comfort zone in style, thank you for sharing!
